Q: The
software does not work on my computer. I get the message "Cannot
create capture buffer' or 'Cannot initialize DirectX'. Why is that?
A: The DAF/FAF Assistant requires a Sound card that supports full-duplex
mode under the DirectX. Most likely your audio card does not support
full-duplex mode. If you see "Cannot initialize DirectX" error
message you will need to install the latest DirectX version. The DirectX
can be downloaded for free from here.

Q: What is
full-duplex mode and why is it so important?
A: When the sound card supports the full-duplex mode it means that the
sound card can record and play sounds at the same time. The DAF/FAF
Assistant uses full-duplex mode because it has to record the speech and
play it at the same time.

Q: My sound card
hardware manual says that my sound card does support full-duplex mode but
I still get the error message "Cannot create capture buffer".
A: There are some sound cards that support full-duplex mode in Windows API
but does not support the full-duplex under the DirectX. Usually it happens
when the sound card uses old drivers that are not fully compatible with
DirectX API. To resolve this issue you can try to find updated sound card
drivers from the manufacturer web site.

Q: What is the
best way to make sure that the application will work on my computer
before I buy it?
A: The easiest way to test the application compatibility is to download
and install the DAF/FAF Assistant. The DAF/FAF Assistant has a trial
period during which you can make sure that the software is working
properly on your computer.

Q: Why the
software uses delay range starting from 40ms? Why not less than 40ms?
A: The DirectX API which is used by the DAF/FAF Assistant has some
internal latency that does not allow to use delay values less than 40ms.

Q: There
are some garbage noises when I use small delay values. Why?
A: The DAF/FAF Assistant is CPU demanding software. The less the
delay value the more horsepower is required from your computer. When the
computer does not have processor that is fast enough the sound can break.
If this is the case you can try to stop unnecessary applications that are
running at the same time on your computer or/and think about upgrading your computer
system. Beginning the version 1.1 you can also use the Fast FAF option.
This option when enabled will use simplified FAF algorithm that can work
on less powerful computers.

Q: I have Windows 95
and when I run the application I get the error oleacc.dll not found.
A: The oleacc.dll file is required by the API that is used from the DAF/FAF
Assistant. You can download the dummy oleacc.dll from here. Please
note that this is not the real oleacc.dll but the emulator that will make
the application work.

Q: How can I
increase the volume?
A: There are several parameters that you can adjust: master volume,
microphone volume and microphone boost. They all are located in "Master Volume"
application. You can find this application either in the program menu or
you can double click on the speaker icon in the right bottom corner you
your screen. See the sound
card configuration documentation.
